Malta · film production & photography

Malta, as it behaves, not as it poses.

Line producer by craft. Photographer by instinct. Malta through both.

One attention, worked at every scale: a lily opening on a table, a storm cell crossing the coast, a shoot moving through the island's permits and roads.

Scale 01Millimetres

Attention came first.

Before any camera, there was the habit of staying with one small thing until it opened. The studies keep that habit: botanical and close work, almost all black and white, made slowly at home and in the fields.

Scale 03Kilometres

The island, read closely.

Every place here exists twice: once as a photograph, once as a location with an access road, a permit owner and a window of usable light. The notes below carry both readings.

Scale 04Sky

The same attention, at the opposite scale.

The child who watched an ant cross a branch now watches cells cross the coast at night. Storm work is patience, timing and a little risk: hours of a sky building, then the island lit for half a second. The same reading of weather, timing and access tells a production when and where it can shoot.

A personal archive of the island, kept deliberately small. Not stock, not commissions: photographs made because the moment insisted on being kept. Four bodies of work, four scales of the same attention.

Scale 05Operation

Line Producer, Malta.

I work in the line-producing chair for international productions shooting in Malta: budget preparation in Malta Film Commission format, film permits, locations, crew coordination, schedules, and the paperwork behind the island's cash rebate of up to 40%.

Foreign budgets arrive already shaped by another market. The Malta side of the work is conversion: local rates and vendors, access and permits, rebate mechanics, crew, geography, weather. That conversion is judgement work, and it runs from first call to wrap.

For international producers, part of this is often described as film fixer support in Malta. In practice, the role is line-producing: budgets, permits, locations, crews, schedules, and the daily decisions that keep a shoot moving.

The location knowledge was not researched. It was photographed.

About

Line producer by craft. Photographer by instinct. Based in Mosta, working across Malta and Gozo, with years spent learning how this island behaves.

The seeing started early, inside a hollow carob tree, watching small things carry large ones. The camera came later, to hold what memory could not. The production work runs on the same habit of noticing, applied to budgets, permits and people.

A production that needs Malta, or a photograph that needs a wall.
